The City of York Council works to attract and grow investment in York

The York Enterprise team, located within the City of York Council's City Strategy Directorate, works to attract and grow investment in York. Working with businesses currently located in York and attracting new investment, we use our wealth of local knowledge to find the best opportunities available to match individual needs. From commercial property options to linking in to the local business network, this assistance is provided free of charge.

From past to present

York Enterprise was set up in July 2010, to provide business with a single point of contact to help investment decisions and grow the York economy. York Enterprise will build on the previous work and activities undertaken by york-england.com and the City of York Council, engaging with businesses across the city and encouraging investment.

The future

The City of York Council, through the York Enterprise team, provides a single point of contact facilitating growth with York-based businesses.  It will also attract new business and investment to York by showing potential investors what a great place York is to run business and live life.

Under guidance and input from The York Economic Partnership, chaired by Peter Kay, the newly formed York Enterprise team will continue to maintain a private/public partnership relationship.

Past successes include CPP and GHD

CPP, the UK's leading life assistance business opened its main headquarters in York in 1998 and now employs over 1,000 people in York alone.

GHD, in November 2006 Australian-owned GHD chose York as the base for its growing European operations.

"GHD were attracted to York for a number of reasons, but particularly because of the strong employment base which has specific expertise in the engineering, railway and transport sectors. There are also excellent transport links, which are vital for our work in Europe, the University of York is very well respected in our areas of expertise, plus it is a very pleasant place to live and work."

Tom Pinzone, Director of GHD

GHD is ranked in the world's top 30 engineering and architecture companies, has a turnover of $500 million (AUD) and employs over 4,500 people across the globe.

Investing in York

Nestlé UK and Ireland has invested £150 million in turning the York site into not only a 21st-century manufacturing plant fit for the long-term but also as a hub for Nestlé, both in the UK and globally. From October 2010, premium coffee brand Nespresso will be locating its Customer Relationship Centre at the Nestlé York site, creating a further 73 jobs marking another step on the York site's journey towards becoming a world-class, multi-purpose business centre fit for the future.
